Mid-Career Crisis

You Can Apply the Principles of Taekwondo

While building trust with your client is a really great thing to do, and a fabulous skill to develop on you way to becoming the Master Hairstylist, knowing what you can do to protect yourself from too much information, cloudy boundaries, demanding clients will be vital to your well being in a chaotic salon.

Inexpensive, Effective, and Easy to Use

Okay, my hairstylist friends, today I’m going to share with you how pilates prop can help you with body pain.  They are inexpensive, effective and easy to use.  You can even travel with them, store them in attractive basket or container and keep in your living room, or wherever you watch TV.  We will go through each one that I use on a regular basis and share my own discoveries as well.

Let's Make It The New Normal To choose authenticity in your salons is to declare a future in the beauty industry, but how many hairstylists actually are that? What you do today to bring honesty and awareness to your own life, the salon, to your clients, will have a profound effect on your energy level, your satisfaction, your happiness, and your ability to stay at a particular salon, or stay in your career, period. It begins with the owner, and trickles down. There always seems to be an underlying dishonesty, lack of transparency, and deceit in salons. Let's make authenticity the new normal in salons, and read on to find out how.

To Land Yourself In The Salon Of Your Dreams

You've been told to be the best at what you do, so you can climb up.  Maybe you’ve done everything the “right way”.  You’ve gone to beauty school, you got a job in a salon, but you quickly realize it isn’t enough to sustain you financially, or spiritually.  You stick it out to get some experience, but you have been working hard and long hours with little pay, and hope it gets better.

True Transformation

There have been times in my life, where defeat ran my world, and it was a bear to wrestle with.  In fact, I don't know if you can relate, but it seemed such an easy place to go in my mind.

I felt self-conscious about the family I grew up in, seven kids and blue collar family.  We always had food on the table and hand me down clothes, and presents under the Christmas tree.  But somehow, I felt unimportant in this family, and unlike the rest, and deeply sad.

Book Launch

What what would you say is the biggest issue in our industry that we don't talk about? My first book Self-Care For Hairdressers: How To Avoid Stress And Burnout, And Step Into The Professional You Were Meant To Be, is  finally here! This book is the first in a series and will be an essential for any salon, beauty school, hairdresser, and salon owner library. You probably know it, but may not be able to articulate it. However, I bet you can feel it.

[caption id="attachment_545" align="aligncenter" width="842"]Balance 123rf.com/Stuart Miles[/caption]   Through my observations and experience as a stylist, owner, and educator, I've noticed in the industry that not only are hairdressers the most empathic group of people, but we are also some of the most high strung, perfectionists, egotistical bunch I have ever known. Along with that is a great deal of suffering as well. And most of the time it is silent.

Are you PRADA, GUCCI, or LANDS END, or one of my favorites Yamimoto?

Defining your own personal brand is essential in attracting the kind of clientele you would like to bring to your chair, and the clients that will pay for your services, regardless of whether or not you own a salon.

Start tearing out pictures from magazines and begin an online folder or a hard copy folder with images of what you are attracted to. I wouldn't limit your scope to fashion or hair, because if you are just beginning, this is the time to widen your pool to choose from. You can always narrow the focus later.
